fountain lakes
Fountain Lakes are Jac Tonks and Emma Heeney. With playful songwriting and lush harmonies the pair create the romance and foreboding of girl groups of the 1960s; their songs both sweet and dark cautionary tales.
In 2025, Fountain Lakes celebrated the release of their first single ‘Dreams’ to a sold out bandroom at Northcote’s iconic Wesley Anne, the accompanying music video premiered on ABC TV’s RAGE, and the single enjoyed lots of of radio play on PBSFM and 3RRR. The pair also played their first international support, opening for Irish band DUG on the Melbourne leg of their Australian tour.
In late 2025 the pair spent time in an old converted church in country Victoria writing soon to be released EP 'Junkyard of Lost Hearts'. From it comes their first single of 2026, Castaway, released April 10.
Restrained and deliberate, sweet yet dark - entwined vocals sit at the centre of the song, dreamlike harmonies drifting above dark tremolo and driving rhythm. There is tension in this tale of love lost deep at sea.
Junkyard of Lost Hearts is out in August 2026, before the pair head to Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland for a month long music residency at the Fish Factory Creative Centre to write their debut album.
“Just when you think that all of the great chorus one-liners are taken, Fountain Lakes find a corker with, ‘I don’t even cheat in dreams’. It is not wasted on them with their transcendent harmonies and deft song structure. They are gorgeously clever in every way!” Angie Hart (Frente)
“Harmonies like honey, gentle strumming of angels, utterly mesmeric!” ****½ Kath Deveney, ABC Radio
